Nueva Esperanza, a Hispanic church plant out of Simi Covenant Church just celebrated their 15th anniversary. A little more than fifteen years ago, when I was senior pastor at Simi Covenant, I met Roberto Ghione and his wife for the first time. Immediately we found a common passion to impact Simi Valley with the gospel. Not long after this new church was birthed, meeting in the Simi Covenant Church buildings.
With great pride, I attended their celebration last night. A wonderful church has been birthed and is thriving. It has not always been easy; church planting is hard work. Roberto and his family are full of faith and perseverance and stubbornness. More they have huge hearts for the Jesus Christ, for the gospel, for our community.
Two churches sharing the same space is not always easy. But it was and is the right thing to do. We have had to get to know each other, learn how to work together, and to share ministry together. We have had to overcome difficulties and assumptions.
Our goal has been to reach diverse groups living in our community. Ultimately in spite of language and culture differences, we are one church.
On this Pentecost Sunday, Happy anniversary to Nueva Esperanza! Blessings on your future.
