I got an advance PDF of Doug’s new book. As Doug said it is a fast read–and it is a good read. Doug describes how the world is moving from the agrarian age, to the industrial age, to the information and now into the inventive age. Each age still exists–and churches live and serve in each world.
Doug gives us a quick course in culture study that provides a good basis for understanding what is happening in our world and how that relates to the church. Doug knows the church in America exists in many forms and relates to different cultural ages. Still, the world is changing.
The inventive age upon us is one in which inclusion, participation, collaboration and beauty are essential values. So in the inventive age: “the ability to teach and preach and lead is taking a backseat to the pastor’s capacity to facilitate open-source faith experiences for the people of the church.”
Lots to think about–a good book to use with church leaders to talk about what is happening in our churches.
I think the book comes out in August—it is worth picking up.
