There is a revolution going on. Followers of Jesus in the US are taking to the streets, concerned about a wider variety of social issues, believing that the church has something to say about this issues, and must say something about these issues.
This is not a rehash of old social gospel…there is a much stronger sense of the transformative power of the gospel that engages and changes lives, families, society.
This new voice recognizes that we do not live in a Christian nation, if we ever did. This new voice in the public square recognizes that it speaks a holistic gospel message from the margins. This marginalized position actually gives the church a more potent voice. The church does not speak from a trimphalistic, I’ve got it (the gospel), you need it, I am going to beat you over the head with it, Christendom stance.
Rather from the margins, through a stance of weakness and humility, with compassion, and with conviction characterized by a gracious orthodoxy, the church speaks and acts.
This stance, the way of Jesus, actually has greater potential for changing lives.
