Brian McLaren has a new book out–Everything Must Change: Jesus, Global Crisis, and a Revolution of Hope (Thomas Nelson, 2007).
Buy this book and read this book. It will disturb you and challenge you. It just might make you angry. Read this book! We who live in a Western, capitalistic, individualistic world need to be jolted by what Brian writes.
Too easily we let Christianity become a religion that simply gets us ready for heaven. McLaren argues that the gospel of Jesus has implications for how followers of Jesus live their lives now, but even more, the gospel of Jesus has revolutionary implications for the systems, the modern societal machines in which we live.
Some have raised concerns that this book is simply a recasting of a social gospel. I disagree. McLaren sees this book as a continuation of his discussion about the kingdom of God in his book, The Secret Message of Jesus. This book itself grows out of a conviction that the teaching, person and work of Jesus is not just a good example to follow, but actually offers transformation.
